Supertato leads new children's series billing

New shows from The Composerworks' roster

Our composers have scored a raft of new children's productions. Here's a summary of what's on and what's coming up in 2023.

Supertato

Scored by Sanj Sen (Danger Mouse) and Alex Ball, new comedy action series Supertato (pictured, 52x7’) blasted onto CBeebies and BBC iPlayer last autumn.

The series is based on the bestselling books by Sue Hendra and Paul Linnet. It follows the adventures of the world’s first potato superhero, who, with his veggie friends, tackles the mischievous Evil Pea in the supermarket aisles.

Our recently signed composer Kyle Riabko also wrote three songs for the series YouTube channel, including the rather feel-good It’s So Good To Be Bad (Evil Pea Song).

Supertato is a BBC Studios and Tencent Video co-production. Plug-In Media and Blue Zoo are animating the show.


Pip and Posy series 2

Pip and Posy, the hit preschool series scored by BAFTA-recipients Ellie Wyatt and Joss Peach, has been recommissioned for a second 52 x 7’ season to debut in early 2023 on Channel 5 and Sky Kids.

Produced-by multiple Oscar-nominated Magic Light Pictures, the show has secured major international broadcast partners including ZDF (Germany), FTV (France), RAI Yoyo (Italy), ABC (Australia), SVT (Sweden), Hop! Channel (Israel), NPO Zapp (Netherlands), CTV (Czech Republic), Asiana (South Korea), PTS (Taiwan), DR (Denmark), YLE (Finland), SYN (Iceland), NRK (Norway), RTV (Slovenia) and TVO (Canada). It also airs on Nick Junior U.K..

Pip and Posy is executive produced by Michael Rose and produced by Vici King for Magic Light Pictures. The showrunner at Magic Light is Jeroen Jaspaert (Stick Man, The Highway Rat).

Red Riding Hood: After Ever After

David Walliams' fairytale anthology series After Ever After returned to Sky last Christmas with a sequel to Little Red Riding Hood.

Scored by Heather Fenoughty (StarDog and TurboCat), this 1x60 TV drama stars David Walliams and Jack Carroll and is the fourth instalment of the After Ever After series.

Red Riding Hood: After Ever After is a King Bert Production for Sky. The director is Tracey Rooney and executive producer is Nick Leadbitter.


Dog Squad

Pooch alert! Chris Branch (The Baby Club, The Toddler Club) joined the super-skilled, big hearted team of working dogs Kika, Diesel, Meagaidh, Sylvie and Tinks - aka Dog Squad - in this new CBeebies series.

The clever canines team up and use their superpowers to complete important daily missions for their owners in this new hybrid live action and animated show, which airs on CBeebies and BBC iPlayer.

Bringing a new breed of superheroes to pre-schoolers and their families, Dog Squad is based on the real experience of assistance dog owners and follows each dog on heartwarming and funny everyday adventures.

Dog Squad is a Hello Halo Kids production for CBeebies. The producer is Jayne Austin and the executive producer is Terri Langan.


JoJo and Gran Gran series 2 and 3

JoJo & Gran Gran, the UK’s first preschool animated series featuring a Black British family, returns to CBeebies for series two (currently airing) and series three (in production).

The animation tells the story of a four year-old girl and her fun and wise grandmother who cares for JoJo while her parents are working.

Helping to delight millions of fans are BAFTA-winning composer team Ellie Wyatt and Joss Peach (Tee and Mo, Pip and Posy) along with Jamie Salisbury (Treason) who are scoring music throughout the new 88 episodes.


Ranger Hamza's Eco Quest

From Strictly to seaweed: Ranger Hamza and his ramblers are back on CBeebies to discover nature’s wonders and the vital roles they play.

Music throughout by Chris Branch (Let's Go For A Walk, Junk Rescue, The Baby Club).

Ranger Hamza's Eco Quest is a Hello Halo Kids production for CBeebies. The series producer is Ewan Torrance and the executive producer is Terri Langan.

The series airs daily on the CBeebies channel and iPlayer.


Dick Whittington and His Cat

CBeebies once again took to the stage last Christmas with an adaptation of Dick Whittington and His Cat scored by legendary duo Banks & Wag.

Recorded in front of a full house at Eastbourne’s Congress Theatre, the show bursts with catchy songs, festive fun, and a host of CBeebies stars.

Dick Whittington and His Cat is a BBC In-House Production for CBeebies. The producer is Anna Perowne.

Dick Whittington and His Cat is available on the BBC iPlayer.


CBBC Gameshows

Paul Farrer (The Weakest Link, The Chase, Ninja Warrior) scored title and related music for CBBC gameshow Game On Grandparents.

In this Julia Hardy-presented show, grandkids put grandparents in training for the ultimate esports gaming competition.

Game on Grandparents is an Electric Robin (part of Banijay Rights) production for CBBC. The director is James Clampin and executive producer is Kez Margrie.

Banks & Wag have scored forthcoming CBBC gameshow Get Set Galactic, made by Hello Halo Kids, coming soon.

Banks & Wag are also scoring Netflix's forthcoming Mighty Little Bheem spin-off series (20x7') and are also about to embark on a forthcoming long-form animation series for CBeebies. More details later this year.
