Mark Choi
Mark is a video game composer with a background as a classically trained pianist from the Royal Academy of Music. He is currently scoring the game Tower Five's Empire of the Ants, a photorealistic Unreal 5 RTS/exploration game, which will be published by Microids in 2024. His further gaming work includes Breezy Bay (Talewind), Path of Kami (Captilight), Hiboka (Flying Carpets Games) among more as of yet unannounced titles.
Since 2015, Mark has served as Resident Composer at Whole Hog Theatre, which predominantly draws from Japanese source material to create innovative anime-to-stage productions. He received an Offies nomination for Sound/Music in 2023 for their latest adaptation, The Garden of Words, a film celebrating its 10th anniversary and created by one of anime's most beloved directors, Makoto Shinkai.
He has been nominated twice for a Game Music Remix Award (2021, 2023) for his piano arrangements and performances; additionally, he won the Quarantets competition hosted by the Videri String Quartet in 2020. Mark is also a resident arranger for the London Video Game Orchestra, creating orchestral medleys of popular franchises such as Street Fighter and Genshin Impact.
In his capacity as a performer, he has played and recorded at O2 Wireless @ Hyde Park, Southbank Centre, ITV London Studios, Shepperton Studios, Snape Maltings and the Jazz Cafe as a soloist, session pianist or with the indie pop/rock band which he co-founded.
Mark also composes music for educational purposes, including contributions to the Trinity Music piano syllabus and commissions for the Da Capo Music Foundation. As a father of two young children, he is always curious about finding new and engaging ways to help the next generation make music, whatever their musical tastes and preferences.
