The Story So Far
The Composerworks is an agency which represents film and television composers.
Established in 2012, it has quickly become a well-known composer agency which producers across the industry rely on.
Its composers are located in the UK and in Los Angeles. Their credits span film, factual entertainment, drama, children’s series and animation.
The company deals seamlessly with all aspects of the music production process – from recommending the right composer, vocalist or arranger, to efficiently assisting with all aspects of contracts.
The Composerworks is led by musician and former lawyer Steve Berman. He lives by his mantra: ‘Make Producers Lazy’.
Steve majored in Film Scoring and minored in Jazz Piano at the renowned Berklee College of Music.
He went on to work as a music editor for Saban Entertainment in Los Angeles (the makers of Power Rangers) and, after a brief stint as the assistant to the writer of The Pointer Sisters’ song ‘Jump For My Love’ he worked at Pinewood Studios as a Composer Agent. He also has practised as a commercial lawyer for 5 years. Combining his music and legal experience, he created The Composerworks.
Outside of work: He’s a keen jazz piano player and regularly listens to (and poorly emulates) the jazz greats in between jogging to the sounds of Madeon through his Dr. Dre Beats headphones.
Sophy is a Composer Agent at The Composerworks.
As well as gaining a first class honours music degree from the University of Surrey, she comes with a wealth of experience of working with composers and an encyclopaedic knoweldge of music. She has worked for audio branding agency PH Media Group where she managed many talented composers in the world of film, television and production and expanded her musical knowledge widely.
Sophy is also a composer. Her principal instrument is her voice and she has been classically trained since a young age. Her music has been used in music libraries including Evolution Media and All Sorts Music.
Outside of work: Sophy is a keen walker, loves food and travelling. She’s also a huge film buff and is regularly distracted (in a good way, usually) by their accompanying scores.
