2019 nomination for Good Friday Peace Agreement film

My Dad, The Peace Deal and Me, scored by Nainita Desai, has been nominated for a 2019 British Academy Television Award in the best Single Documentary category.

About the documentary

In 1988, when Patrick Kielty was just 16, his father was murdered by loyalist paramilitaries.

On the 20th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement, he set out on a personal journey to unpick the past, present, and future of an agreement that had a profound impact on his life and the whole of the United Kingdom.

At the height of the Troubles, three men were charged with the killing, convicted of the crime, and sentenced to life in prison. Ten years later, the Good Friday Agreement was signed, setting out a path to peace in Northern Ireland. But for Patrick that peace came at a price: under the terms of the settlement the men convicted of his father’s murder walked free.

Patrick explores what the Good Friday Agreement means for ordinary people, what the last 20 years have delivered and what Brexit means for the future.

Nainita Desai's other recent commissions include Earth's Natural Wonders (BBC One), Extraordinary Rituals (BBC 2) and the forthcoming acclaimed documentary For Sama which will be aired on Channel 4.

My Dad, The Peace Deal and Me is produced by Dragonfly for BBC One. Richard Bond and Ruth Shurman are the Executive Producers. Leo Burley produced. The documentary aired on BBC One in 2018.

The 2019 British Academy Television Awards will be held on 12 May 2019 at the Royal Festival Hall in London.
