Bafta Breakthrough Brit Nainita Desai’s eclectic and versatile sound has contributed to a vast body of projects through her company SOUNDOLOGY.

With her co-writer Malcolm Laws, she move seamlessly between orchestral music and a multitude of other styles fusing contemporary, electronic, world music and musical sound design influences.

Residing in London, UK Nainita’s musical foundations are rooted in documentary where she has forged an enviable reputation composing for documentaries and feature docs.

She has recently composed scores for feature films The Confessions of Thomas Quick (BFI |Picturehouse | Film4), Darkness Visible (BFI) , WW2 drama Ni’iHau, feature doc Troubles (Irish Film Board | BBC) and Interactive film / Video game Telling Lies (Annapurna Pictures).

She has also worked as Sound Designer on many features including LITTLE BUDDHA Dir: Bertolucci, (Keanu Reeves, Bridget Fonda), BACKBEAT, LESSONS OF DARKNESS (Dir: Werner Herzog), AUGUST (Anthony Hopkins) and HACKERS (Angelina Jolie) Her music can also be heard in GREAT EXPECTATIONS (Ethan Hawke, Gwyneth Paltrow) and trailers of over 30 major film & TV series trailers including Borgen, Wallander and The Killing.

Nainita obtained a degrees in Mathematics before attending the NFTS to study sound. Her eclectic musical upbringing as a child led to her studying the sitar, piano, guitar, tabla and violin which led to a post grad degree in Music Technology. She then worked as a freelance music engineer working with many top artistes and bands which led to work with Peter Gabriel during the legendary “Real World Recording Week” sessions, working many top world music artistes.

From rich emotive and epic scores recorded with live orchestras to intimate, small ensembles, and hybrid electronic scores coupled with live solo instruments, Nainita creates a unique sound world for every project drawing upon her collection of unusual and rare instruments.
